The Advanced Training Principles (ATP) Personal Training Certification is a 8-week advanced-level course designed for fitness professionals ready to master the art and science of programming, assessment, and performance-based coaching. This course blends evidence-based methodology with real-world application, equipping you with the tools to assess and coach movement with precision, train clients across the performance spectrum, and manage pain and dysfunction through intelligent program design. Each week builds your expertise around a foundational movement or advanced training concept, giving you a comprehensive system to assess, correct, and progress clients with confidence. From joint-specific movement screening to advanced hypertrophy and power development protocols, you’ll leave this course with a deep, practical understanding of how to train the body efficiently, effectively and safely.
Syllabus for the 8 week ATP program:
Week 1:
Advanced Assessment & Programming for the Squat
Deep dive into squat mechanics, joint mobility/stability requirements, movement assessments, and programming hierarchy.
Week 2:
Advanced Assessment & Programming for the Hinge and Lunge
Combine analysis of hip-dominant and single-leg patterns; explore structural limitations, coaching cues, and appropriate regressions/progressions.
Week 3:
Advanced Assessment & Programming for Upper Body Push and Pull
Breakdown of shoulder mechanics, scapular function, and thoracic mobility; includes assessments and layered progressions for pushing and pulling strength.
Week 4:
Advanced Assessment & Programming for Carries & Conditioning Considerations
Learn how to assess gait, core function, and loaded locomotion; integrate carries into strength and conditioning programs effectively.
Week 5:
Pain Science for Fitness Professionals
Understand the biopsychosocial model of pain; gain the tools to coach with confidence when working with clients experiencing chronic or recurring discomfort.
Week 6:
Exercise Regression & Prehab Considerations
Build your toolbox for intelligently modifying movements and supporting long-term joint health, stability, and resilience.
Week 7:
Programming for Strength & Hypertrophy
Apply periodization models and training variables to create effective programs for muscle growth and maximal force development.
Week 8:
Programming for Speed & Power + Final Exam
Learn to coach explosive movement patterns and structure power-based programs; wrap up with a comprehensive final exam to certify your elite-level understanding.

The Advanced Training Principles course consists of 40 hours of in class practical training. Class is 8 consecutive Friday's from 9:30am to 2:30pm inside NPTI Arizona's classroom located at TG Mesa.
